There have been a number of superstars over the decades that will be very difficult, if not impossible to match. You know the sorts of people/groups I’m talking about: The Beatles, Madonna, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and of course, Elvis Presley.
It speaks volumes as to the influence and longevity of these hitmakers that their songs are still every bit as popular today as they were when they were first released.
It’s not all that surprising that people attempt to imitate and cover the works of these legendary artists either. After all, some would say that learning your craft by mimicking the very best to do ever do it is a smart tactic indeed.
Of course, performing a song in the manner of a timeless superstar of the music industry – with any degree of success – is easier said than done.
Now imagine trying to take such a song and perform it on a stage in front of an arena full of people.
Sounds like a whole not of ‘no, thank you’, right?
Well, for 16-year-old Benedikt Köstler, from Germany, it was a challenge necessary for him to show the world exactly what he can do.
Long story short, Benedikt appeared on the German edition of the popular show The Voice, and decided to try and win over the judges with a rendition of Always On My Mind, by the late, great Elvis Presley.
We’re sure you’ll agree that it’s no easy ballad to take on, but Benedikt was more than ready for his big moment in the spotlight.
Paying homage to one of the biggest musical icons in history, Benedikt ended up impressing the judges so much that all five of them hit their buzzer to turn around and see him finish the song.
The King may no longer be here, but thanks to performers like young Benedikt, his legacy will continue to live on.
