I don’t think I’ll ever truly understand why so many people take to social media to critique the lives and looks of celebrities, but I’ve accepted that it’s the world we live in.
It’s become common practice for the internet to be flooded by comments – both positive and negative – in the days after any event that draws a large number of high-profile figures. The Oscars, the Grammys, the Met Gala… the list goes on.
For reasons unbeknownst to me, there seems to be particular focus placed on just what’s being worn at these events. Celebrity wardrobe choices have always been of interest to folk, I guess, but it’s only in recent years that people have been able to air their opinions publicly en masse.
In any case, the 77th Cannes Film Festival took place this past weekend and – yep, you guessed it – there was much and more said about the respective outfits of those in attendance during the days that followed.
Yet few drew attention quite like the legendary Demi Moore, whose appearance on the red carpet became the subject of a diverse range of reactions online.
Moore, 61, was also a topic of discussion following her appearance at Dolce and Gabbana’s 40th anniversary party earlier this year, then again at this year’s Met Gala.
This time, the actress stunned in a silver gown featuring an arrowed segment that thrust straight out from her left shoulder. She also donned an eye-catching ensemble of silver and diamond jewelry.
If you ask me, the G.I. Jane star looked nothing short of spectacular. But then, what do I know?
In any case, the internet certainly had plenty to say, and not everyone seemed to be totally onboard with Moore’s look.
“It doesn’t even look like her. What on earth has she had done?” one person wrote on Instagram.
Another said: “Demi looked like she has been embalmed.”
A third added: “That’s virtually a whole face transplant; she is unrecognizable.”
Others chose to poke fun at Moore’s dress for the occasion.
“She could open oysters with that wing,” said one person.
Another comment read: “Cannot stop cracking up about her dress!!! Did she grow a wing???” While a third joked: “Why does her dress have an airplane wing?”
Moore found herself making headlines for all the right reasons last year after expressing her support for ex-husband Bruce Willis in light of his fronto-temporal dementia diagnosis.
Rumors insisted that the star had even moved in with Willis’s family to better help her former husband in his desperate hour of need, though Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, later refuted those claims.
What did you make of Moore’s outfit at the Cannes Film Festival? Let us know in the comments.
